This past Monday, I went on a hardcore hike(at Castle Crags State Park, if anyone is interested). About one-third of the way up I started wondering, "What the heck did I put in this backpack?! I don't remember it being so heavy! Water...extra socks...a journal...sweaters......"
And I don't know if this is just me or happens to other people too, but when I hike or go for a run and it gets kind of tough, my mind likes to blow my thoughts out of proportion or make the hike/run super metaphorical.
My brain: "Hmm I must have put rocks in there....Why on Earth did I do that? Oh wait...."
Or it goes something like, "Just like in life, there's always a downhill after an uphill! You go girl!"
Somehow, I started thinking. "...I put a whole freakin hike in here!(Not that it's an object that you can place somewhere, but it was just another abstract-brain thought) All of that to climb this mountain!"
All of that led me to think about other "things" that I've put in my backpack for my ultimate adventure-life! It was a super fun thinking time I had in my head:) I think you'd like it too:)
Stuff in my backpack:
mountains I've climbed
tons of Ramen Noodles
anatomy and biology
college life
random elephant facts
retail and fast food jobs
3 languages
words from books I've read
relationships
friends
14 countries
limited origami skills
paintings and drawings
etc...;)
See, I'm convinced that everything I've learned or have experienced will come into use sometime. Someday, I'll need to what I've learned here and there, for myself, for someone else. Nothing is wasted. I think that remembering what I have in my backpack makes wider the platform of what is available to me.
If you forget what you have in your backpack, you won't look in there to take what you need when the time comes.
I started to recollect things, lessons, moments, bits of wisdom, jokes, old hobbies, whatever, from my 21 years (or actually less) of life and at that moment, purposefully stuffed them in my backpack, "For Later Use."
So, what's in your backpack?
